How VOD247 works: archive, vote, public site.

VOD247 archives every new VOD, airs it on a second channel, lets the chat vote on the next one, and gives each channel a public page for its viewers.

Looking for the do-it-yourself routes, from an OBS loop to a rented server? The guide to hosting a 24/7 Twitch channel compares all four and shows where each one breaks.

What runs, and where.

VOD247 runs every moving part. You just authorize the channel.

  1. 01

    Archive

The catalogue syncs from Twitch. Each new VOD is downloaded at full quality before the 14-day deadline and stored exactly as Twitch had it.

  2. 02

    Broadcast

One player per channel reads the queue and sends one continuous stream to Twitch. The next VOD is ready before the current one ends: no cut, no black frame.

  3. 03

    Chat vote

A bot joins the chat. Before each VOD ends, the chat proposes and votes on the next one, and the winner is queued. Title, category and tags follow it.

How the chat vote works

A public site comes with it.

Every channel gets a public page for its viewers. Nothing to enable, nothing to host.

Live

The VOD on air, a progress bar that moves, the time left, and the next one.

Votes

The current poll with its options and scores, or the last result.

Catalogue

Every archived VOD, searchable by title, year and game.

History

The last airings, with the vote count that elected each one.

Stats

Hours on air, most aired games, chat participation, share of the catalogue never aired.

The page takes your name, logo and colours, and follows the channel’s language and time zone. It answers on a vod247.tv subdomain by default, and on your own domain on request, with no redirect.

Setting up.

Two Twitch accounts: the one that broadcasts, and the one whose VODs are replayed.

  1. 01

Sign in and authorize the channel

Sign in with Twitch, then authorize the account that will broadcast 24/7. Create it if you do not have one yet: yourname_247 is the usual name.

  2. 02

    Declare the source

Tell VOD247 which account the VODs come from. Usually your main channel. The catalogue syncs within minutes.

  3. 03

    Start the channel

Once the first VODs are archived, press start. The bot joins the chat, the stream goes up, the first cycle opens.

The parts that matter.

What a 24/7 channel breaks on, and what is done about each.

The original quality

Twitch stores your VOD in the format you streamed. VOD247 replays it bit for bit. The quality on the 24/7 channel is the quality of the original stream.

The 48-hour cap

Twitch caps one broadcast at 48 hours. The broadcast is restarted about every 12 hours, only between two VODs. A VOD is never cut in two.

Empty queue

If nothing is queued, a filler loop keeps the session open. The channel never drops off the directory.

Crash recovery

A live channel is checked every 30 seconds. If anything stops, it comes back on its own, where it left off, without you touching it.

Labelled as a rerun

Tags Rediffusion and replay, and the mention in every title, on every VOD. What Twitch asks for replayed content.

Questions.

Do I need to leave my PC on?

No. Broadcasting, archiving, the chat bot and the site run on VOD247 servers. Once the channel is authorized, nothing on your machine is involved.

Which VODs can I replay?

Your own, or those of a source that has given you a written licence. Replaying someone else’s content without it breaks the Twitch rules, and the VOD247 rules.

Can I use my own domain for the public site?

Yes, on request. Point the domain at the site, write to VOD247, and the site answers on your domain, with no redirect.

Does the public site show my viewers’ names?

No. Vote counts and request counts are public; the usernames behind them are never shown.

Your channel live, your PC off.

Authorize the account, let the archive fill, press start.
